Recovery Christian Center Daily Meditation - 11/22/14 - What Are We Really Seeking?
"But seek ye first the Kingdom of God and all His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you." Matthew 6:33 KJV
One of the issues we have as Christians, and especially those believers in recovery, is that many of us came from environments where we had very little or even no money, possessions, etc. Many of us were homeless, jobless, and penniless or nearly so. We felt like failures, and like it is written in other spiritual literature, "we were hopeless, useless, and lost."
Now that we have found freedom from that which was destroying us, we now find ourselves trying to make up for not having by chasing material wealth and status like we chased whatever self destructive behavior brought us here. Perhaps we are just making up for lost time, or we are driven by the desire to never again be in that insecure, hopeless state, but whatever is driving us, it is not the path God wants us to walk. What Jesus is saying in the text is to pursue God first, and in that pursuit, He promises to provide our needs.
Think about it, if He brought us out of the hell on earth that was our old life, how hard is a job, and a place to live, and enough "stuff" to be comfortable? He will meet our needs, physically, mentally, emotionally, and most of all spiritually. The problem is we confuse our wants with our needs and we value our material gains more than our spiritual ones. God, however, in His infinite wisdom, wants us to focus on our spiritual needs so that we can be equipped to handle our natural ones.
We are not going to grow spiritually if we keep chasing stuff like we chased our old life. God has so much more for us than stuff. He has Peace Beyond All Understanding, Unconditional Love, Unshakable Faith, Unbreakable Trust, Unlimited Hope, Indescribable Joy, Limitless Patience, Tolerance, and Kindness and Rock Solid Self Control. Chase Him. Pursue Him. Seek Him and you will see limitless possibility.

RCC Toy Drive

We know these are rough economic times especially with the holidays coming and Recovery Christian Center serves one of of the poorest neighborhoods in Philadelphia: Kensington! This year we are beginning an annual toy drive to help folks in our community. We are asking our FB friends and family to help in two ways. If you can donate new or gently used toys or gift cards or funds to help us in that endeavor, we would be grateful. Secondly if you are or know a family that could use the help let us know!

World AIDS Day @ RCC

I think we can all agree that HIV is still a major issue in urban communities especially in the Kensington section of Philadelphia. So this year Recovery Christian Center's Project Miracles HIV Ministry is sponsoring a testing event on World AIDS Day. Know your status.
